Step 3: Choose a Fascia or Valance (If Required)
Open Roll
Open roll blinds are standard. As the name suggest, there is nothing covering the rolled-up fabric, mechanism, or mounting brackets from sight. They can be supplied in either chain loop or cordless operation.
3 1/2" PVC Valance
A 3 1/2" tall alabaster colored PVC valance with a matching fabric insert covers the rolled-up fabric, mechanism, and mounting brackets from the interior of the home. This valance can have a return that wraps around the mounting brackets, so it works well for outside mount blinds. It can also work well if your blind is inside mounted, but not completely flush. This valance is available with chain-loop operation.
3 1/2" Executive Valance
A 3 1/2" tall executive valance with a matching fabric insert covers the rolled-up fabric, mechanism, and mounting brackets from view from the inside of the home. The base valance is manufactured from PVC and is available in 20 colors to match your choice of fabric. This valance can have a return that wraps around the mounting brackets, so it works well for outside mount blinds. It can also work well if your blind is inside mounted, but not completely flush. This valance is available with chain-loop operation.
Cassette 100
One of the most popular residential options is the Cassette 100. It�s sleek housing with a matching fabric insert completely encloses the rolled-up fabric and mechanism from view at all angles - including the backside. The base cassette is aluminum, and will be supplied in white, vanilla, bronze, or black finish - whatever matches your fabric the best. The Cassette 100 system is available with both chain loop or cordless operation.
Square Fascia
The square fascia is manufactured from aluminum and is available in a white, alabaster, bronze, black, or anodized finish. It comes standard with end caps for outside mount blinds; end caps for inside mount blinds are available upon request. Either a 3" or 4" size will be chosen, depending on the size of the blind. This fascia is available with chain-loop operation.
Curved Fascia
The curved fascia is manufactured from aluminum and is available in a white, alabaster, bronze, black, or anodized finish. It comes standard with end caps for outside mount blinds; end caps for inside mount blinds are available upon request. Either a 3" or 4" size will be chosen, depending on the size of the blind. This fascia is available with chain-loop operation.
Cassette
The cassette is manufactured from aluminum and is available in a white, alabaster, bronze, black, or anodized finish. The cassette completely enclosed the blind so that the fabric and mechanism is not visible from the front, back, or sides. The front of the cassette is available square or curved and works well in commercial environments. This cassette is available with both chain-loop and cordless operation.
Duo Shade
The duo shade combines two shades that are hiddent behind one fascia. A typical combination would be a sun control fabric for during the day, and a privacy fabric for during the night.
4" Back Fascia with Reverse Roll
A reverse roll is used when it is necessary to have the fabric come of the front of the roll in order to push the fabric farther into the room in order to clear an obstacle.
Step 4: Measure Your Blinds
Inside Mount
Inside mount blinds are ideal if you want a clean look. As the name suggests, they are mounted inside the jamb. To Measure:
Width
- Measure the width between the left and right window jamb at the top, middle, and bottom.
- Round the measurements down to the nearest 1/8"
- Record the smallest of the three measurments
Height
- Measure the height between the top and bottom window jambs in a few places
- Round the measurements up to the nearest 1/8"
- Record the laregest of the three measurements
Depth
- Depth refers to the ammount of space inside your window jamb where your blind will be installed (measured front to back)
- At the top of your window, extend your tape measure against your flat jamb until it is as far back as it can go (where your brackets will be installed). Record the measurement from there to the front face of the window jamb.
- Pay special attention for any obstacles (i.e. window cranks or handles) that will interfere with the blind. If there are any obstacles, take a measurement from the obstacle to the front face of the window jamb. If this measurement is smaller than the measurement taken at the top of the window, record this dimension as your depth.
Outside Mount
Outside mount blinds are installed outside the window frame, and extend past it. Outside mount blinds are ideal for windows that have shallow frames. They are most often installed on the face of the trim around a window or door. To measure:
Width
- Measure the overall width that you would like your blind to be.
- Make sure that the blind will cover the entire window for maximum privacy.
- Often times the overall width of your blind will be the same as the out-to-out measurement of your window trim.
- Blind will be supplied the exact size you specify, no adjustments to size will be made during manufacturing of outside mount blinds.
Height
- Measure the overall height that you would like your blind to be.
- Make sure that the blind will cover the entire window for maximum privacy.
- Often times the overall width of your blind will be the same as the out-to-out measurement of your window trim.
- Blind will be supplied the exact size you specify, no adjustments to size will be made during manufacturing of outside mount blinds.
