Solid Douglas Fir Construction

Solid Wood Window

Naturally Better

Clear, Coastal Douglas Fir is the wood of choice for top performing wood windows. In comparison to Hemlock, Pine, or Western Red Cedar, Douglas Fir is much stronger and harder. The wood typically has a strait or slightly wavy grain pattern. When freshly milled, the Douglas Fir is a light, rosy color. Depending on the UV inhibitors in the finish used, the wood will typiclally "redden" with time. Douglas Fir accepts most stains or paints very well.

Window Configurations

Configurations

For maximum energy efficiency and durabaility, opening windows are built with casement (c) or awning (d) configurations. Non opening windows are typically direct glazed (a) for maximum light, or can be built with a fixed sash (b) if your preference is to have the sightlines the same between your opening and non opening windows.

Corner windows, bay windows, and box windows are all in a days work for the craftsman in our shop.

Standard hardware colors are white (a), oil rubbed bronze (b), and wicker (c). Other finishes are available upon request.

Brickmold & Sill

Brickmold Options

Tricon's Windows are offered with either 2 1/4" (a) or 3 1/2" (b) Double Beaded Douglas Fir brickmold. Stepped & sloped sills are standard and are used to ensure water is shed away from your windows. They can also be supplied with no brickmold if you prefer to do your own exterior trimwork. If the windows are supplied with no brickmold, the windows can be built with the sloped sill nosing extended past the window box for your trim to butt into, or the sill nosing can be cut back to allow for your trim to run past the window box if you also prefer trim on the bottom of your windows.

Certifications

CSA Certified

Tricons solid wood windows are quality audited and certified to CSA A440.2-04. The windows are also tested to and exceed the NAFS-08 (Harmonized Standard) as required by Canadian building code. Test results show that the windows are able to withstand hurricane force winds without even a drip of water coming through.
